Long afterglow property and mechanism on Gd2O2S:Ti

摘要
A new phosphor Gd2O2S:Ti was synthesized by a traditional solid-state reaction method. The luminescent properties and thermoluminescence curves were investigated. An orange afterglow was observed in the Gd2O2S:Ti excited by UV light with a persistent time of about 2 h according to the light perception of dark-adapted human eyes. The mechanism of the afterglow has been discussed and analyzed by the thermo-luminescence spectra. We conclude that the transition E-2 -> T-2(2) of Ti3+ metastable state is the reason of luminescence and afterglow, and give a new afterglow mechanism of this kind of phosphor.
