Innovations in training - inpatient vs. outpatient

While the medical environment for trainee specialists in orthopedics and trauma surgery (O&E) has changed constantly in recent years, the educational content remained the same. Because many core services in O&E - such as arthroscopy in particular - are predominantly provided on an outpatient basis in outpatient surgery centres, it is important to involve these structures in training. Innovative concepts would be necessary, but they often fail due to sectoral limits, formal requirements and, last but not least, the complete lack of cost effectiveness of education in outpatient surgery centres. In the following, a model is presented of how continuing surgical education can work anyway.
