Ammonites of Arabian origin from the Early Bathonian of the Czorsztyn Unit, Pieniny Klippen Belt (Western Carpathians, Slovakia)

The first finds of ammonites of Arabian origin in red nodular limestones of the Czorsztyn Formation (Early Bathonian, Zigzag Zone) of the Pieniny Klippen Belt (Western Carpathians) provides data about their northernmost occurrence, and enhances the understanding of distribution pattern of Middle Jurassic ammonites in the Tethyan area. The occurrence of Arabian species in the Pieniny Klippen Belt confirms the existence of a migration way lined along the former southern European margin, which linked the Arabian and Sinai Peninsula, NW African shelf (Morocco), the Iberian area and Czorsztyn Ridge (Pieniny Klippen Belt). Ammonites of the subgenus Micromphalites (Micromphalites) show some affinities to M. (M.) pustuliferus (DOUVILLE), hitherto only known from the South Tethyan area.
