Technology, ethics and the environment in Hans Jonas: a responsible look to the future

The purpose of this article is to present the elements of the relationship between Philosophy of Technology and Contemporary Ethics based on the thinking of Hans Jonas, as well as its application to the ecological problem we face today. We highlight how this philosopher develops a consistent argument about technological advancement, the resulting increase in the power of our actions and, consequently, the need for a new future-oriented ethics capable of dealing with this unprecedented conjuncture. We also explain the structural notions of Responsibility Ethics proposed by Jonas and their direct implications on the environmental issue.
