Metrology in environmentally conscious intelligent manufacturing systems

Nowadays, many CAD/CAM/CAE packages are applied in industries, however in most cases they are stand along types. The paper introduces an Intelligent Manufacturing System structure for production of helicoid surfaces. Some of the manufacturing operations were made by environmentally conscious way. The environmental impact of the machining processes can be modelled. The model integrates aspects of process mechanics, features of wear, and lubricant flows. That was extended for dry/hard machinings as well. For inspection the goodness of the model, as a case study, experiments were done on the base of factorial experiment design. Using this system empirical formulas couldbe worked out. At the experiments different technological parameters (feed, cutting speed), cutting tool types and coatings of the cutting tools, different type of coolant materials, and different volume of coolants and lubricant were used. Measured values were the cutting force and torque occured at machining, comer wear and flank wear of the cutting tool, different parameters of surface roughness of the machined surfaces.
