Pulsed Raman analyzer for fusion fuel in the technological systems of thermonuclear reactors

A pulsed laser spectrometer based on the effect of spontaneous Raman scattering (SRS) and developed for the analysis of fuel for protium, deuterium, and molecular impurities in technological systems of thermonuclear reactors. The SRS signal is detected by photon counting using a photomultiplier tube cooled by solid-state microcoolers and a strobed counting channel. Calibration of the analyzer against reference H-2 : D-2 mixtures with a total pressure of P-tot=50 torr showed that the minimum concentrations of protium and deuterium detectable by the analysis were [H-2] = 220 ppm and [D-2]=470 ppm. This level was achieved by measurements using the rotational lines S(1) at 587.03 cm(-1) and S(2) at 414.65 cm(-1), respectively.
