Mobility management is concerned with the maintenance of information in the network which can be used to locate a mobile user; The mobility management information stored in the network is used, for example, to support call handling (e.g. during call setup). This paper presents some of the mobility issues and mobility management procedures identified in the ACTS-340-MARINE project. One of the objectives of MARINE is to investigate the application of Mobile Agent Technology (MAT) and Distributed Processing Environment (DPE) technologies to IN based systems. An object-oriented, mobile agent based specification of the mobility management architecture and procedures are presented. A number of design decisions, which significantly impact the mobility architecture, are discussed. Finally, examples of a User Registration and a call setup to a mobile user are illustrated.
