摘要:
The purpose of a standard in supporting industry is explained, followed by the means for drafting and approving documents before publication. The rapid expansion of optical technology over the latter half of this century has led the BSI to shift the emphasis of its activities from the UK to the international scene through its support of the international committee ISO TC172. Problems experienced in drafting a standard in a rapidly developing field of technology are described by reference to the measurement of surface imperfections and optical wavefronts. A case is made for increasing R&D support for universities to analyse the needs of industry for new standards and to provide drafts in compliance with directives for approval by industry worldwide.
