The problem of measurement and its uses in sociological studies are considered. The characteristics of measurement in sociology are discussed in comparison to measurement in technology and the natural sciences. The main stages in the establishment and development of the representative theory of measurement are analyzed. Problems awaiting solution are emphasized.
