The computer simulation technique has been more and more widely used in the room air conditioner design. Basically, there are two types of simulations, transient simulation and steady state simulation. In this research, the transient simulation of room air conditioner was investigated operating at both cooling and heating modes. By creating the mathematic model of refrigerant thermodynamic properties, heat transfer of evaporator and the condenser, the compressor cooling capacity, the power input, the room cooling and heating loads, Runge-Quta method was employed to solve the numerical solutions of room air conditioner performance versus the time variation. For a wall mounted split room air conditioner, the author obtained the satisfied results of relationship of the high side pressure and low side pressure of refrigeration system, the mass flow rate, the variation of refrigerant mass in the condenser, the variation of refrigerant mass in the accumulator and the room temperature in function of time.
