A description of the link between the characteristic properties of Josephson junction network models and the low-field magnetic response of the superconducting granular samples is given. By analysing the physical properties of an elementary cubic network of Josephson junctions we notice that a bare three-dimensional model, for which the grains are reduced to points, cannot fully account for the magnetic properties of granular superconductors. A dressed model is thus proposed to investigate the magnetic properties of a simple eight-grain superconducting system. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
