CPW-Fed Penta-Band Slot Dipole Antenna Based on Comb-Like Metal Sheets

A penta-band coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed slot dipole antenna with two comb-like metal sheets is proposed in this letter. Each operation band is controlled by a respective resonant path, and this results in high design freedom. The pentaband antenna operates at 1.88 (f(1)), 2.34 (f(2)), 2.70 (f(3)), 3.08 (f(4)), and 3.60 GHz (f(5)). The 6-dB fractional bandwidths are 17.68%, 8.66%, 5.59%, 11.61%, and 5.27%, respectively. The proposed antenna achieves a nearly omnidirectional radiationH-plane pattern, and the antenna peak gain is from 5.37 to 6.46 dBi. Although this letter describes a general design idea, it should be noted that the operation band frequencies could be easily tuned for commercial wireless communication systems, such as PCS, WLAN, WiMAX, and LTE.
