On Some Aspects of Tsunami Waves Propagation in Ocean

摘要
Interest in transoceanic tsunami wave propagation has been revived recently. By adopting the World Geodetic System 1984 Earth model, this article presents a method to solve shallow-water long-wave equations on an ellipsoidal surface. Method of characteristics on a regular grid coupled with Strang-type splitting results in finite difference schemes with order (2, 2) accuracy both in space and time. Discontinuous solution (traveling shock wave) which may represent one kind of tsunami bore-propagating bore front step is discussed.
