THE HIGHER PHARMACEUTICAL EDUCATION IN UNIVERSITY OF TARTU IN THE 2nd HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY

University of Tartu holds a significant position in development of pharmacy like in development of other scientific disciplines, because it is responsible for the level of knowledge of apothecaries of Baltic till 1919. Lecturer has always had a great role in creation of qualitative education. Institute of Pharmacy of University of Tartu experienced its golden age in the 2nd half of the 19th century, when excellent lecturers were in its headship - Karl Klauss (1796-1864) and Johan Georg Noel Dragendorff (1836-1898). Both Klauss and Dragendorff fascinated student by their personalities, though they also did not forget their pedagogical work. Dragendorff considered that methodology of studies had a determinative role in familiarization of speciality, programme of studies in pharmacy developed by him was,he leading one also in other Universities of Russia in extent of semi centennial. Lecturers of pharmacy came to take part in practical works and to listen lectures of Dragendorff from all Europe, and it proves that Dragendorff had succeeded to establish eminent educational system for pharmacists. Development of qualitative pharmaceutical education is live issue also today, because it is necessary to link the practical skills with deep theoretical knowledge, and role of lecturer is very important in this process.
