摘要
Structural health monitoring of components that operate within harsh environments requires the development of advanced and robust sensor technology. More specifically, small-scale sensors that can operate and transduce electrical signals at elevated temperatures and chemically corrosive environments for extended periods. The realization of structural health monitoring technology for harsh environment applications could enable prevention of critical component failure leading to increased operation lifetimes, increased safety and reduced operation costs. This paper introduces the need for harsh environment sensing technology, summarizes the state-of-the-art technology and provides recommendations for future development of harsh environment sensors.
