摘要
Because folic acid may reduce homocysteine (HCY) plasma levels, a new risk factor for coronary artery disease, we tested whether a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandate for folic acid fortification of foods would affect plasma HCY among 2,755 subjects studied angiographically over 4 years and at high risk of incident coronary events. Plasma HCY decreased by approximate to2 mumol/L, and the percentage of patients with "high-risk" HCY decreased by 1/3 in temporal association with implementation of the FDA rule.
