摘要
The kinetics of oxidation of dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) with peroxomonosulphate in acid medium has been studied. The stoichiometry of the reaction corresponds to a reaction as represented by the following equation: HSO5- + (CH3)(2)SO -> HSO4- + (CH3)(2)SO2. The product has been identified by IR spectral analysis to be a sulphone. A probable reaction mechanism has been suggested and the derived rate law accounts for observed experimental results. The energy and entropy of activation have been calculated to be (62 +/- 6) kJ mol(-1) and (-55 +/- 8) JK(-1) mol(-1), respectively.
