A Novel Control Scheme for Solar PV Fed PMSM Driven Energy Efficient Water Pumping System

摘要
This work proposes a single stage standalone solar photovoltaic (PV) array powered water pumping system using a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The presented system includes a PV array, a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI), a PMSM and a pump. The electrical energy from the solar PV array is fed to the VSI which acts as power processing unit (PPU) and supplies desired currents to drive the PMSM. As the motor rotates, the pump attached to the motor accomplishes the objective of water pumping. The vital contribution of this work includes: (i) development of a novel modified vector control, which improves the torque response of the system, (ii) implementation of single stage variable step size incremental conductance (VSS-INC) technique, which provides a fast peak power point tracking and eliminates the need of intermediate stage and (iii) introduction of solar PV feed forward term, which accelerates the overall performance of the system under dynamic conditions. Behavior of the proposed system is realized through simulation studies using MATLAB/ Simulink. Moreover the system performance is also validated experimentally under varying environmental conditions using hardware prototype developed in the laboratory using the digital signal processor DS1102.
