摘要
In this paper, we analyze the optimal capacity allocation for high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in morning commute, using the classical bottleneck model to a single corridor. The vehicular traffics are divided as high occupancy vehicle (HOV) and low occupancy vehicle (LOV) based on the number of in-vehicle travelers. The whole corridor is allocated as general purpose (GP) lane and HOV lane, separately with a bottleneck at the end of each lane. The optimal capacity of HOV lane for minimizing the system's total cost is analytically derived. It is found that with optimal capacity of HOV lane, each HOV traveler experiences lower cost than each LOV traveler. Numerical examples are presented to verify all analytical results.
