Artaud and the Balinese theatre.: The 1931 performances.

Artaud wrote << On the Balinese theatre >> after attending a performance, at the time of the Paris International Colonial Exhibition in 1931. This text marks the time, it gives the subjective description by the author of a performance which represents, for him, << the highest idea of the theatre >>. Which were the performances that seduced Artaud, were they adaptations from Balinese theatrical practice and are Artaud's feelings on this theatre to the point? Those are the questions which this article tries to answer through the confrontation of the Balinese theatrical tradition, Artaud's famous text and various documents about that time.
