RTM322 engine/WAH-64 Apache helicopter propulsion installation losses and associated nacelle/airframe cooling flow characteristics have been measured utilizing cold flow simulation testing. The test activity utilized AH-64A production hardware and a RTM322 engine mock-up. Engine exhaust flows including swirl profiles were simulated. Flow operating characteristics required to simulate different engine operating conditions were established using flow scaling parameters. Engine nacelle secondary flow circuits were also simulated. Test measurements included RTM322/Apache exhaust system installed performance losses and cooling circuit flows characterization. In addition, the test facility has provided a tool to develop acid validate alternative design approaches to support the RTM322 engine integration into the WAH-64 Apache helicopter.
