Prediction of some thermodynamic properties of two- and three-component melts from phase diagrams

Methods permitting the calculation of the thermodynamic properties of liquid alloys with satisfactory accuracy on the basis of the liquidus coordinates of the corresponding phase diagram, the heats of fusion of the components, and in some eases the thermodynamic properties of the solid and liquid phases have been developed. The potential of the improved Hauffe-Wagner method are noted; it may be used to calculate the activities of the components in liquid alloys. The activities of the components of the binary systems (Si, Ge, Al, Ni) -Me and Fe-Nb are calculated for the first time over a broad composition range. The activities of silicon in liquid three-component Cu - Si - Al alloys are calculated from the phase diagram. The results are in good agreement with those obtained from the Boniet equation on the basis of the activities of silicon in the binary boundary systems Cu-Si and Al-Si.
