MIMO Antenna Array for 5G Smartphone Applications

摘要
A compact eight-port multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna system operating at 3.5 GHz band (3400-3600 MHz) for future 5G mobile phones is proposed in this paper. The proposed array is composed of eight gap-coupled IFA antennas with a compact size of 7x5.2mm(2), which are mounted on the two long frames of the smartphone. To reduce mutual coupling, inverted T-shape slots etched on the ground are introduced between adjacent antennas. The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth (S11<-10dB) of the proposed antenna array can cover 3400-3600MHz, and the isolation of any two ports is better than 16dB. The calculated envelop correlation coefficients (ECCs) are less than 0.02, showing a promising diversity performance for 5G smartphone MIMO systems.
