Raman spectroscopic study of solid and molten carbonates

Raman spectra of Li2CO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3, and binary eutectic mixtures of Li2CO3-Na2CO3 (53-47 mol%) and Li2CO3-K2CO3 (62-38 mol%) were measured at temperature to 1173K. The frequency shifting of v, band with increasing temperature and the splitting Of nu(3) band in the spectra of the solids and melts were reported. Comparing the Raman spectra with the X-ray experiment and the MID simulation results reported by other authors, the difference of the interaction between Me+ and CO32- in the pure molten salts and the mixtures were discussed. For the molten mixtures, the broadening behavior of the symmetric stretching v, band of the CO32- was reported.
