摘要
Neurons use stochastic components, including ion channels, to process and transmit information. In small structures these can cause significant signal fluctuations. We developed a stochastic simulator to investigate the reliability of cortical axons. Ion channel stochasticity makes these thin axons highly susceptible to spontaneous action potentials and information rates decrease linearly with distance.
