Globalization, contemporary organizational discourse and the constitution of work identity

This paper considers globalization as a discursive construct. It begins by outlining a particular conception of the term 'discourse' locating it within the wider turn to 'culture' currently taking place within the human and social sciences and indicating, in particular, its differences from the concept of 'ideology'. The paper then proceeds to delineate the ways in which a particular conception of globalization is deployed within contemporary discourses of organizational reform both to probIematize the ways in which organizations conduct their business and the ways individuals conduct themselves within organizations.
