摘要
In consideration of internal and external threats to the specialty of clinical psychology, this paper examines what constitutes a unique professional identity, discusses the extent to which clinical psychology currently meets these criteria, and suggests processes by which clinical psychology can develop a stronger identity. It is argued that these issues of identity are not specific to clinical psychology, but apply to the profession of psychology in general. The paper concludes with a recommendation for a reduction in the number of APS colleges while retaining specific interests through a divisional structure.
