CULTURAL SOCIABILITIES Salta, second half of the 19th century

Through this article, we try to present some preliminary considerations about the formal and informal cultural sociabilities in the city of Salta between 1850 and 1880. We are particularly interested in addressing, through them, the analysis of its members and habitues and their cultural productions, some of the aspects of the process of redefining the rules and principles of an incipient local public space, the values of a modern citizenship and the ideas and intellectual environment that were taking shape during those years. We try to approach this study taking into account the social distances and power relations that were sanctioned and legitimized between those who conceived themselves as promoters of these civilizing processes and those who, on the contrary, remained on their margins.
