Calculation and visualization of two-dimensional joined internal waves in a viscous exponentially stratified fluid

摘要
An exact solution is constructed for a linearized problem of generating disturbances in a viscous continuously stratified fluid moving uniformly over a plane by a horizontal strip. This problem is an analogue of the Stokes problem for joined waves. The properties of nonstationary leading and stationary joined (lee) waves behind the source, as well as the properties of the accompanying boundary layers, are analyzed for large and small Froude and Reynolds numbers. The derived expressions are estimated asymptotically. Convenient algorithms for visualization of scalar and vector fields are designed, and the fields of velocity, stream function, and vorticity are constructed. The relationship between the source's parameters and the structure and energetics of disturbances is determined. A significant difference between the field patterns constructed from exact and asymptotic formulas is noted.
