An adapted Energy Efficient Hierarchical Clustering Topology Algorithm in wireless sensor networks

摘要
Over the few recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has received increasing attention. Since the sensor has a constraint energy capacity, one of the major issues is developing an energy-efficient clustering protocol in WSNs. One important method is adopting hierarchical clustering algorithms to use the energy efficiently and increase the networks' life time. One remarkable hierarchical clustering algorithm is LEACH. It has greatly improved the energy efficient and shortened energy consumption. However LEACH has a fix proportion cluster head nodes, which will loss energy efficient when the parameters change in WSNs. Based on LEACH protocol, a modified routing algorithm is proposed. We put forward the optimum number of cluster (k(opt)) according to the size of monitoring area, location of base station and number of nodes instead of the fixed value. Simulation results show that adopting k(opt) achieves better performance than LEACH in terms of energy consumption and the network lifetime.
