The authors reviewed research that examined the effects of counselor disability status on the counselor preferences and perceptions (expertness, attractiveness, and trustworthiness) of individuals with and without a disability. Counselor disability status seemed to have a limited effect on perceptions and preferences, which was moderated by other counseling variables. The topic being discussed in counseling, and certain counselor skill variables, seemed to have a larger effect on preferences and perceptions. Research and practice implications are suggested.
