Alcohol consumption - results of a study in Saxony-Anhalt

The present work - part of a study on food consumption in Saxony-Anhalt - was concerned with alcohol consumption and abuse in this region. Measures of nutritional education and prevention of addiction should be derived. In 518 personal interviews persons belonging to different population groups were asked about their drinking habits and the quantities and kind of alcohol usually consumed. According to a self-assessment of the persons questioned, alcohol consumption in Saxony-Anhalt should have decreased since 1993. Stress is considered to be the main cause of alcohol consumption. It is also obvious that in the last years consumers have become discriminating buyers of alcoholic drinks.
