Occupational health and safety management systems at universities

Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (LBUS), Sibiu, Romania, is committed to providing a safe and healthy work and study environment; indeed, each member of the University community has a personal interest and role to play in achieving this. A safe and healthy environment does not just happen: it must be actively promoted through management systems that are designed to create a safety culture, such that safety becomes an integral part of all activities. Those who manage and direct activities must also manage the risks of the activities and the associated health and safety requirements. The purpose of this paper is to present safety and health management systems from different universities, to make an analysis of these systems and to show the authors' personal vision concerning this highly important matter.
