摘要
In this paper we describe research conducted into the dynamics of a conceptual helium-cooled fluidised-bed thermal nuclear reactor. The reactor consists of an inner reactor cavity in which the uranium particles are fluidised. This cavity is surrounded by moderating graphite walls. The physics behind this reactor is extremely complex, involving the fluidisation of particles and the associated voidage fluctuations feeding back into the criticality of the system. Detailed axi-symmetric and three-dimensional numerical simulations suggest that the reactor has passive control of criticality features, and that it can have a steady thermal power output.
