This patent relates to methods for modulating cell-cell adhesion through cadherin cell adhesion molecules, with particular reference to the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). The modulating agents comprise of a cadherin recognition sequence (CAR), or an antibody that recognises such a sequence and purportedly can be used to either inhibit or enhance cell adhesion. The invention promotes Schwann cell migration on astrocytes by reducing Schwann cell-astrocyte adhesion. It is suggested therefore, that the invention could be used to facilitate the use of Schwann cells in myelin regeneration within the central nervous system.
