Diversity: A critical resource requirement for the future direction of medical research

Finding solutions to the United States' most nettlesome health problems requires a diverse biomedical work force, since most of these conditions disproportionately affect members of minority communities; and until serious problems with the U.S. educational system are corrected, affirmative action is needed to achieve appropriate diversity, argues Jordan J. Cohen, president of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
