摘要：
This paper examines the potential of total quality management (TQM) to improve the competitiveness of tourism industry. The various approaches to the TQM process are presented, and the experiences in manufacturing reviewed briefly to identify the lessons for the service industries. The key differences between manufacturing and services are presented in order to determine the influence of these on the successful adoption of TQM. This is used as the basis for developing three sets of guidelines for the successful implementation of TQM in the tourism sector.
