100 Years of Development in Extractive Industry from Romania: Facts and Figures

The general objective of this article was the realization of a dynamic portrait of the Romanian extractive industry since 1918 to the present and the emphasis on the role and importance of the extractive industry in the evolution of the Romanian society. Specific objectives in achieving the general one include: the presentation of the development of the extractive industry in three stages: the period 1918-1948 (until nationalization period), the period 1948-1989 (State-owned industry period) and the period 1989-present (post-December period); highlighting the transformations generated by technological developments and national and international socio-economic characteristics, as well as analyzing the various sectors of the extractive industry from the point of view of development and their evolution over time, thus exploring the hydrocarbon extraction industry (natural gas) and the mining industry (coal, ferrous and non-ferrous ores).
