Sustainable Quality Improvement of ICT Education in the Secondary School for developing countries through the Sri Lankan experience

摘要
Multiple data collecting methods were applied to collect data on learning Information Communication Technology (ICT) at school level from 1295 students, 60 teachers and 35 principals covering 5 districts and appropriated officers from responsible organizations. This paper assesses the status of key ingredients required for sustainable quality ICT education to suit any country. That includes the linking of the curriculum with national goals, infrastructure development, physical resources, process of equipment purchase, human resource allocation, relevance of pre-service and in-service teacher training programs, trainers, advisors and guidelines from professionals, funding and financial monitoring, policy and guidelines, software, maintenance, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability. It also discusses the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats compared against international standards. Finally, this paper presents some suggestions possible for the development of ICT education in Sri Lankan schools. The survey reveals that Sri Lanka has strengths and opportunities to improve the quality of ICT education even though there are weaknesses and threats.
