Analysis on Drivers' Dynamic Visual Characters in Different Road Conditions

With the application of eye movement equipment Eye Link II, real vehicle tests were conducted on typical city roads, and driver's dynamic visual characters on different road conditions were analyzed. Research results show that 75% of drivers' fixation duration was less than 300 ms, with no significant differences on different road sections. On relative complex road sections, driver's area of fixation was distractive, and horizontal search breadth reached its max value at the intersection road sections. When traffic environment becomes more complex, driver's small-amplitude saccade behavior reduces and big-amplitude saccade behavior increases, but mainly is the formal one. Meantime, the low-speed saccade behavior reduces and high-speed saccade behavior increases, but mainly is low-speed one.
