Graph-Based Semantic Query Optimization for Intensional XML Data

The evolving of graph database's techniques and tools has granted this type of connected databases more popularity in data storage and query answering techniques. These techniques include structural indexing, knowledge representation, and logic or ontology reasoning. In this paper, we propose a logical data model in graphical structure, which logically structure XML nodes and semantic relationships between them. In addition, we propose a semantically annotated XML database model, to reflect the logics and semantics inferred from the graph database. The reason is that we apply a third dimension to the tree pattern query (TPQ) matching process to traverse XML entities based on the logical data structure between database entities. The other two dimensions are the traditional predicates of TPQ matching of structure and values between the query and document. The semantic annotations, accordingly, represent these logical data structure in the XML database.
