The comparative analysis of industrial and technology development policies in some East Asian NICs - Lessons for less developed countries (LDCs)

This paper examines the critical success factors deriving from the experiences of industrialisation and technological development in some of the East Asian first and second tier NICs. Firstly, some of the most relevant literature regarding industrial and technological development policies of these countries is studied. Secondly, the most key success elements of East Asian first and second-tier NICs including S. Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia will be analysed. Finally, some important lessons derived from the successful experiences of these countries for other Less Developed Countries (LDCs) will be proposed.
