Vulnerability of Mexican migrants in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic

The migratory experience can impact the health conditions of people, either during their displacement, their stay in the destination country or when they return to their place of origin. In that sense, the objective of this paper is to offer a reflection on the vulnerability of the Mexican migrant population in the context to the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, we use administrative health records, sociodemographic surveys, and journalistic data. Our results indicate that Mexicans living in the United States, along with those who are deported by the immigration authorities, constitute a highly vulnerable population to the SARS-CoV-2, due to their status as irregular migrants, as well as other aspects related to their sociodemographic, epidemiological and labor profile.
