The corrosion performance of building metals in contact with gypsum

The corrosion behaviour of the building metals in widespread present-day use (non-alloyed and Sendzimir zinc-plated steel, anodized and non-anodized aluminium AlMgSi0.5, stainless steel 1.4301, pure copper and high-zinc brass CuZn39Pb2) in contact with modern gypsum building materials consisting of natural and FGD gypsum from lignite- and coal-fired power plants has been studied in the context of a Forschungsvereinigung der Gipsindustrie e.V (Gypsum Industry Research Association) research project sponsored by the AiF The use of systematically matched gypsum/metal combinations makes safe selection and use possible without corrosion damage, and thus without the associated costs for repair, etc., even in severely exposed applications and regions.
