Curved waveguide with replicated eye-boxes

摘要
We demonstrate for the first time the replication of a pupil in a curved waveguide with high resolution. Typically, replication of a pupil in a curved waveguide is hampered by split images, occurring because rays from the same pixel hit the eye pupil at different angles. We have identified and couple into eigen modes of the curved waveguide. As a result, light inside the waveguide has a continuous wavefront and pupil replication is achieved without split-images. The curved waveguide is used in an AR demonstrator, sustaining high resolution, great transparency, low distortion see-through. The waveguide combiner is compatible with all projector techniques, in RGB, and can have any radius of curvature. As such, the waveguide can be integrated into slim prescription glasses using Trulife's patent-pending curved design.
