摘要
The Science Opportunity Analyzer software, or SOA, was developed with one goal in mind: to increase the productivity of science planning teams by streamlining the observation design process. Due to effective software development practices, conscious resource management, and above all, adroit assessment and fulfillment of user needs, SOA has proven instrumental to the scientific successes of NASA's Dawn mission, which include elucidating the nature of Ceres and its spectacular bright spots. We present a retrospective on the challenges experienced while developing SOA, how they were overcome, and how SOA became a more compelling tool for flight projects after its use and maintenance within Dawn.
