Intraosseous access of infusion in prehospital care

Intraosseus route of infusion is well known alternative of intravenous access in prehospital conditions. It is widely accepted method in pediatric advanced life support procedures. Current experience presents that 10(inraosseous infusion) route might be as well useful in older children and adults.14 cases of 10 use in severe trauma in patients over 15 year were analyzed. In all of those cases access was provided using Bone Injection Gun (B.I.G). There were 8 multiple injured patients, 3 with severe burns and one with acute intra abdominal bleeding. 8 patients were in cardiac arrest. In 2 cases 10 access was achieved in second attempt. 10 infusions are effective and technically easy alternative for difficult IV access in adults. There should be widely implemented into pre-hospital EMS procedures.
