The emerging farm structure of milk production and trends in production in Lithuania

Small farms are dominant in the production structure of the Lithuanian dairy, sector. Low productivity, of dairy cows, insufficient breeding work, farmers' inadequate appreciation of the benefits of co-operation, and development of co-operation are just some of the difficulties. Financial support from the Government and SAPARD programme is absolutely necessary, for the enlargement of dairy, herds and improving animal keeping technologies. The establishment of a data network for dairy, farms is needed. Big and competitive farms will produce the high quality milk for Lithuanian dairy industry. Only, co-operation can secure constant and higher income for milk producers.
