The impacts of the water crisis on the population of Campinas/SP (2012-2016)

The recent water crisis in southeastern Brazil can be considered an "announced crisis", mainly due to inadequate management of water resources and undue occupation of water producing areas. The drought has had far-reaching consequences, which have affected both the natural ecosystems and the residents of the region, which were deprived of this essential resource. In this context, and, through a theoretical-conceptual review, this article proposes to analyze a documentary survey and field research, the impacts of drought on the residents of the Ribeirao Anhumas and Capivari river basins (areas that show differences of quality of life and infrastructure that are quite different from each other), located in the city of Campinas/SP, as well as their experiences and perceptions regarding the lack of water. With this, it aims to show the effects of environmental injustice in the municipality, as well as the extreme relevance of participatory spaces and the need for transparency and accountability by the managing bodies.
