摘要
Using Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF) to encode interferometer sounder spectra may allow the detection of cloud with no need for "background" information. Results of initial tests with observed clear and cloudy spectra are presented. These show that this technique will readily detect small cumulus partially filling the field of view in data measured by ARIES, Airborne Research Interferometer Evaluation System, an airborne simulator for the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer, IASI, due for launch in 2003.
